Status of introduction of the federal land register

The status of the introduction of the federal land register depends on whether the cadastral surveying has already been carried out in a given region.

It is only possible to introduce the federal land register in regions in which the cadastral surveying has already been carried out. This means that the cantons are required to retain their existing records and continue to manage them until the completion of the introduction of the federal land register.

In view of this situation, there are still cantonal land registry records in existence in which the full effects of the federal land register are not yet reflected.

Since surveys of individual districts of a canton are carried out one after another, the possibility exists that in some cantons there are districts using cantonal records and others using the federal land register. Cantons are therefore required to ensure that it is also possible to implement all the provisions of the Swiss Civil Code relating to landownership in those districts in which the federal land register has not yet been introduced.

The graph and the list below provide an overview of the status of introduction of the federal land register in Switzerland. Municipalities are only included in the statistics if the federal land register has been fully introduced.
