Utilisation of data
Many areas within the economy and the public sector, as well as in our private lives, are based on cadastral surveying data, which are utilised as basic data.
The use of cadastral surveying data is of great importance for the Swiss economy. The ownership of plots of land and entries in the land register are based on these data, and in this way mortgages totalling more than 1'162 billion Swiss francs are secured (figure for 2018). In addition, cadastral surveying data are used as the basis for a broad variety of applications, including:
- Geographic information systems
- Urban and district maps
- Three-dimensional city models
- Zoning plans
- Utility network plans
User-defined applications (e.g. web-based applications)
- «rollstuhlparkplatz.ch», which provides an overview of parking spaces for disabled persons
- The National Geodata Infrastructure (NGDI)
Cadastral surveying data are directly utilised in:
- The plan for the land register – this describes the location, form and content of a plot of land
- The basic cadastral surveying plan – this depicts the «real» world, including height data at scales ranging from 1:2,500 to 1:10,000
- «Cadastral information» – the online application that provides plans and aerial views of specific plots of land, as well as the associated administrative information
- The directory of towns and cities – a dataset encompassing the entire country that includes postcodes and perimeters
- Web Map Services – these services enable users to utilise cadastral surveying data and maps via the Internet, for example as background images or for illustration purposes.
