Numerous customers use data from the official cadastral survey for referencing specific applications. The AV-WMS ensures direct access to current surveying data. The demand for such a service which provides surveying data is evident since the collection and processing of data for customer needs is very time-consuming and expensive.
The original cadastral surveying data are monitored and updated in a geographic information system (GIS) per municipality, region or canton. In order to guarantee a stable AV-WMS geoservice, the data must be stored on cantonal or regional data servers. The cantons are responsible for transferring the data from the revision authorities and for their installation on the servers.
AV-WMS is part of the e-geo project «Geodienste der Kantone» (cantonal geoservices) managed by the Conference of the cantonal geodata and GIS authorities in Switzerland (KKGEO) and in collaboration with the Conference of the cantonal surveying offices (KKVA). The project includes processing the official cadastral surveying data with a web map service.
