Building addresses
Essential for private parties and the public
Building addresses play an increasing role in both public administration and the private life of citizens. The location of a building is defined unambiguously by its postal address, which enables any required building to be found quickly by fire and rescue services, the police or merely by people unfamiliar with the area. At the same time, vehicle navigation systems have become increasingly significant. Building addresses are also used in planning and development, in geographic information systems (GIS), in registers of buildings and apartments, for postal deliveries and for electronic telephone directories. In the future, cadastral surveying will manage the building addresses for the whole of Switzerland, keep them up-to-date and make them available for further applications.
