General plan

According to the transitional provisions in the ordinance governing the cadastral survey and the technical ordinance of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) governing the cadastral survey, the cantons decide if the original general plan or reproductions thereof may continue to be produced before the corresponding digital data are available. The general plan will then be replaced by the Basis Plan (BP) for cadastral surveying.

The existing general plans must be updated in those areas where no digital surveying data are available.
The general plan shows the real world at a scale between 1:2500 and 1:10,000. There are existing analogous plans for all of Switzerland, usually also available as raster data.

For many planning and spatial development activities the general plan together with the Basis Plan is the ideal groundwork since contour lines and spot heights are also included.
